CD3

CD3 molecule has ability to form a composite receptor molecule with T cell surface antigen recognition receptor (TCR). It is the main recognition unit for T cell to recognize antigen and has the function of stabilizing TCR structure and transmitting activation signal.

CD3 is a protein complex and T cell co-receptor that is involved in activating both the cytotoxic T cell (CD8+ naive T cells) and T helper cells (CD4+ naive T cells). It is composed of four distinct chains. In mammals, the complex contains a CD3? chain, a CD3? chain, and two CD3? chains. The multi-chain T cell receptor/CD3 complex (TCR/CD3) plays a key role in antigen recognition, T cell activation and in consequence in triggering an antigen specific immune response.
